A Weekend in Nature

Last weekend, we packed up the car and headed south to Asheville. We've been thinking about where we might like to live when we're ready to leave DC, and I thought Ryan would like the mountains and nature that are abundant in the Asheville area. While we loved that aspect of it, we didn't really feel at home in the actual city and could not picture ourselves living there. So, my search for home continues. It's ok, though...I have a few more options that I have a feeling will be a good fit.

Even though we didn't love Asheville, we still had an awesome time in our little mountain cabin. This was our first time using Airbnb and we loved it! The house was about 30 minutes from downtown Asheville, and was located in a private community on a literal mountain. We had to drive up windy, terrifying roads almost all the way to the top! I didn't love that part (or going down! scary!), but it was so worth it when we got there. The views from the cabin were breathtaking, and we felt totally alone even though we knew there were other homes on the mountain.

Our favorite part was by far the outdoor hot tub on the deck overlooking the mountains. We jumped into our swimsuits and hopped in literally as soon as we got there! We both just sat in there giggling because we were so happy to be there together. The house was TINY with just a kitchen/living area, bedroom, and bathroom. Perfect for just the two of us. We had a fire and snuggled up watching 90 Day Fiance (as you do).

The next day there was literally a tropical storm (because of course), but we didn't let that stop us from enjoying the day. We drove out to Catawba Falls and went for a VERY wet hike. We both had rain jackets and waterproof shoes, so it was still fun! I actually love being outside in the rain. Something about it just makes me feel alive, you know?

We haven't been loving city life very much lately, so it was lovely to escape and be in nature for a few days. We're heading to Ocean City in a couple of weeks, so we'll be enjoying nature of a different kind (my kind this time...the beach!) and we can't wait!
